Cyclists from all over the UK will to head for the Highlands this spring with the much-anticipated return of the UK’s original closed road cycling event, Etape Caledonia, on May 15.
Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, Etape Caledonia, organised by LimeLight Sports Club, is expected to welcome over 5,000 riders to Pitlochry to tackle the challenging 85-mile route, and provide a much-needed boost to the hard-hit tourism economy of Highland Perthshire.
Last year, the event was temporarily moved into a rare September slot in the events calendar to enable it to proceed. This prompted a route reversal to accommodate essential road access for local farms busy with the autumn potato harvest.
In 2022, the event returns to its usual anti-clockwise route taking in the mighty Schiehallion and the stunning banks of Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel, giving participants a glorious ride across Perthshire’s big tree country, enjoying the magnificent splendour Scotland on peaceful closed roads.
Event organisers are also hoping to see a surge in participants raising vital funds for the event’s official charity partners, Marie Curie and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
